Ring Lamp

Lighting for vessels

Materials
  • PLA filament
  • USB-powered LED ring
  • 150mm cylindrical glass vase
  • Rotating display base
Components
  • Ring shade
  • Bracket
  • Diffuser
  • Rotating base

What:

The Ring Lamp is a custom 3D-printed lighting system designed to fit atop a 150mm cylindrical glass vase. It’s ideal for small aquascapes or terrariums, offering functional lighting without obstructing access to the inside of the vase.

Why:

Overhead lights often block access to small vases or jars, making it difficult to tend to plants or adjust displays. Repurposing a common selfie ring light resolves this by providing even soft lighting around the rim of the vase, with easily controlled intensity and color temperature and allowing access inside.

How:

The system is made from:

  • 3D-printed ring shade and bracket that rests securely on the vase rim.
  • 3D-printed diffuser - softens the LED lights and shields it from moisture.
  • rotating base allowing the vase to be easily turned for different viewing angles.
  • Off-the-shelf components including a USB-powered LED ring and common cylindrical vase.
