Plant Holder
2024, Vancouver / Aquarium / 3D Printing
What:
A modularly designed plant cutting holder with replaceable parts to be swapped out to fit different tank sizes and cuttings.
Why:
Philodendron can grow leggy very quickly and new plants can be cloned from cuttings. Cuttings will grow root systems that can help pull nutrients from waste in the water to support some natural filtration in a tank.
How:
The Plant Holder was modelled in FreeCad and printed using transparent PLA. It comes in 5 pieces. The modularity allows it to be printed for efficient customization and reusability.
Body x 1 = Model has adjustable cutting slots
Support fins x 2 =Slide into the body and provide perpendicular support to the tank wall. They can be replaced and customized to fit any tank
Hook x 1 = Slides into body and hangs over the tank rim. Can be replaced so they can be modified for any height, or rim depth.
Cover x 1 = Slides into the body and holds all of the cuttings in place.
Materials:
Transparent PLA
Plastic crafting/bead jars
Custom 3D-printed components (base, shaft, and lamp shade)
