molo design
Feb 2018 - Jan 2020 / Vancouver , Ca / Studio + Media Technician
What:
molo is a Vancouver-based design studio known for its flexible modular furniture, space partitions, and lighting made from paper and textiles. As a studio technician I worked with production, research, and development. As media I contributed to the creation, customization, and promotion of molo’s ethereal and innovative designs.
Why:
molo’s products, such as it's iconic paper softwall and cloud softlight, are born out of the pursuit for flexible and sustainable design. These objects transform spaces—from luxury storefronts to airports and homes—into functional yet whimsical environments.
How:
In the workshop:
Crafted and customized products: Assembled and tailored products to meet client specifications. Modifying dimensions to fit specific spatial configurations and ensuring seamless and precise finishes by hand.
Prototyped and tested designs: Assisted with research and development for new materials and products.
Quality assurance: Conducted meticulous inspections to maintain the studio’s high standards before shipping to clients worldwide.
In the studio:
Update product catalogues for both print and web.
Design product use guides and provide press-ready images for marketing.
Edit videos for social media and other promotional content.
Materials and Tools:
Specialized paper and textile materials for modular furniture and lighting.
Workshop precision and power tools
Industrial paper cutter
Software for image editing, graphic design, and video production (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
Highlight:
I attended Orgatech 2018 in Cologne, Germany, where the molo booth received the FRAME Award for Best Use of Materials.
